Calatrava and Wright’s Florida Presence
AIA CEU Course (3.0 LU/HSW)
Course Description
This course examines the architectural relationship between Santiago Calatrava’s Innovation, Science and Technology (IST) Building at Florida Polytechnic University and Frank Lloyd Wright’s master-planned campus at Florida Southern College. Through an immersive site visit, participants will analyze how Wright’s principles of organic architecture and climate-responsive design influenced Calatrava’s contemporary interpretation of structure, light, and form.
The course focuses on practical applications for architects working in Florida, emphasizing environmental responsiveness, structural expression, and integration with the landscape. Participants will document observations and translate lessons learned into strategies applicable to their own projects in similar climatic and cultural contexts.
